Taking place at the Rivervale Barn in Yately, Hampshire, Natalie and James’ wedding was an absolute blast.
I met them earlier in the year and was delighted when they asked me to be their wedding photographer. While I’d never worked at the Rivervale Barn before, Natalie and James were both keen for me to photograph their wedding having seen my reportage work. As a result, they wanted the photographs to be honest and observational.
My coverage started from the service and from the moment they first saw each other, you could sense the excitement in the air.
After the ceremony, we headed outside to take a number of portraits with their close friends and family. This was wrapped up fairly quickly (it was cold!). Although, not before James asked me to photograph him performing a hadukon on his ushers and best men.
The Wedding Breakfast
After that, we headed indoors where they mingled with their guests. Everyone then sat down for the wedding breakfast, with some live classical guitar music for the entertainment.
With the wedding taking place in November, the nights were naturally drawing in a bit. So I decided to bring a few speedlites with me and take a number of shots with some off camera lighting.
Using this approach, I took a number of portraits with the bride and groom with their friends outside. I then proceeded to use the speedlites for the first dance.
Usually I’m not a big fan of using flashguns, but I have to say I am really quite pleased with the results here.
Anyhow, below is a selection of some of my favourite images from their day.
I hope you enjoy viewing them.
Thank you Colin Miller so much for being the perfect photographer! We are both so happy with the photos and couldn’t have chosen a better dude for the job!James and Natalie
